Spotting at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (pt 1)

3 days ago     19 Views     Leave your thoughts

Every once in a while I like to go and fulfill my need of watching planes take off and land. The weekend is not always the best time to go due to them being slower days at MSP International Airport. However, this weekend was a pretty good weekend for me. I was able to catch a few widebody takeoff & landings as well as, of course, the narrowbody aircraft. For this weekend's adventure I decided to try and shoot from the upper level of the Terminal 2 Paring Garage. It wasn't an awfully busy weekend, regarding arrivals/departures, but I was…

When a fare is too good to pass up

2 weeks ago     28 Views     Leave your thoughts

This week Icelandair decided to have a flash airfare sale on tickets originating in the USA to cities in Europe. Some of the lowest fares I've seen in a long time, with many tickets to London, Paris & Copenhagen pricing out at just below $500 roundtrip, including taxes. Of course, I couldn't let this deal pass up so I got online and started chatting with people in those cities who I might couch-surf with and came up with a friend who lives just to the north of Copenhagen in the city of Fredensborg.

A Return to the Land Down Under

2 months ago     13 Views     Comments Off on A Return to the Land Down Under

Back in 2012 I had made my first journey Down Under to Australia and New Zealand. Although they stood on my list, they were never really high on my list. I think what initially brought me to the continent was the fact that I had a friend there who I had known for many years. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed my time there but with so many other wonderful places to visit I had put a return trip lower on my list. Until recently. On April 7th I saw what could quite possibly be the deal of a…

2015: A Travel Year in Review

6 months ago     21 Views     Comments Off on 2015: A Travel Year in Review

2015 was a relatively quiet year for flying, a modest 13 flights over the course of 27,107 miles. My first trip of the year found me traveling to upstate New York to visit with some family just north of the city of Syracuse. It had been about 5 years since my last visit but was really nice to have a visit again. Finally my big trip had come. I had spent a number of days looking for award tickets and finally scored them to East Africa so that I could climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. The trip involved purchasing 4 one-way tickets.…

A Musical Birthday Extravaganza … in London

7 months ago     17 Views     Comments Off on A Musical Birthday Extravaganza … in London

There is no secret that I love musical theater. I first fell in love with musical theater the very first time I saw Miss Saigon in New York City back in 1994. I can't even really begin to count the number of shows that I've seen, which include: Phantom of the Opera, the Lion King, Wicked, Rent, Miss Saigon, etc. I surprisingly came home from Tanzania with more money than I expected. Knowing the my birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks and that I rarely ever do anything for my birthday I started to plot what I…

Travel Photo Roulette #105: Landmarks

1 year ago     9 Views     Comments Off on Travel Photo Roulette #105: Landmarks

The current round of Travel Photo Roulette is being hosted by Laura & Lance over at Travel Addicts. Their chosen theme for this round is: Landmarks. This is a tough category because there are so many landmarks out there. But my chosen landmark would be the most beautiful structure in the world, the Shwedagon Pagoda. The Shwedagon Pagoda is a 99 metres (325 ft) high gilded pagoda in the center of the city of Yangon in Burma and arguably one of the most beautiful in the world.
